How to Wash a Smelly Wetsuit

Wet suits are worn directly next to the skin and, as a result, absorb the smells and odors our bodies produce. These smells are produced by bacteria and, if left to stay on the suit for any length of time, cause the wet suit to smell. Since wet suits are delicate, certain techniques must be used to remove these bacteria, and preventative measures taken to stop them from reoccurring.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase an enzyme-based cleaner from a dive shop and soak the wetsuit in it overnight. Let the suit air dry when done.

    • 2

Handwash the wetsuit using a gentle cleaner, like Woolite, and gently wring the suit dry. Spray with Febreeze while still damp.

    • 3

Wash the suit with Woolite in a washing machine set on the gentle cycle. Use warm water, and add a small amount of fabric softener to the wash.
