How to Iron Satin

Maintain the luxurious look of satin by ironing to keep wrinkles at bay. Silky and smooth, satin is a dressy fabric made of polyester and typically made into sheets, dresses and blouses. Satin does not wrinkle easily; however, if packed away for the season or pushed into a full closet, it will need to be ironed. Ironing the delicate material takes minimal time and is not difficult, but must be done carefully to prevent burning.

Instructions

    • 1

Preheat the iron to a low setting to prevent burning. If the satin was packed away in storage, set the iron to the highest low-heat setting.

    • 2

Turn the fabric inside out and lay flat on an ironing board.

    • 3

Move the iron across the satin swiftly and continuously to prevent burning. Apply light pressure and use long, smooth strokes. When not using the iron, set it off to the side standing up.

    • 4

Remove the garment from the ironing board, turn it right-side out and hang.
