How to Remove a Sharpie Marker out of Material

Sharpie is one of the most widely recognized manufacturers of permanent markers. The word "permanent" in terms of stains conjures up images of ruined clothing items that have to be tossed in the trash. Sharpie marker ink won't usually come out with regular washing alone. Luckily, however, you can remove some Sharpie marker stains from material surfaces if you attack the stains as soon as possible and with the proper cleaning techniques.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a clean, white cloth down on a flat surface. Use a cloth that you don't mind getting dirty.

    • 2

Place the stained material on top of the white cloth, stain side up.

    • 3

Spray hair spray onto the stained area. If you don't have hair spray, moisten another white cloth with rubbing alcohol and press it onto the stain.

    • 4

Blot the area with a clean, dry white cloth.

    • 5

Repeat the process of moistening the stain with rubbing alcohol or hair spray and blotting the area dry until you have removed the stain.

    • 6

Launder the material as you normally would, according to the instructions on the label.
