The Secret to Folding a Fitted Sheet

Bed sheets tend to be large and unwieldy, which can make them tricky to fold without help. Add in the elastic corners of fitted sheets and it becomes even more complicated. With some practice and a few tips, folding these fitted sheets will quickly be as simple as matching socks.
  1. Holding the Sheet

    • The first step to flawless fitted sheet folding is to ensure that you are holding your fitted sheet correctly. Before you start folding, you will want to have the shorter side of the sheet facing your body. It is also important that the sheet be inside out. Place your hands in the corners, one at a time.

    Starting to Fold

    • With your hand in the top-right corner, fold the right corner over so that the left corner sits inside it. At this point, there should be a corner hanging in front of you: grab that corner and slide it on the top of the others. Repeat this process with the fourth corner. At this point you should have all four corners in one hand with the sheet facing you right side out.

    Finishing the Fold

    • Lay the partially folded sheet down on a flat surface. Smooth it out so that it forms as much of a box shape as possible while removing any wrinkles. Fold the long sides in thirds, covering any elastic that may be showing. It will now be a rectangle shape that you can continue folding in on itself until it is the size you want.

    Benefits of Foldng Fitted Sheets

    • For most people, it is easier to just ball up fitted sheets, or sloppily situate them on a closet shelf until you need them again. Folding fitted sheets correctly will keep you organized, however, and will give you more space. One balled up sheet takes up the room of two or more folded sheets. Folded sheets are also less likely to have wrinkles, which may lead you to sleep better at night.
