How to Remove a Sweaty Odor From Cloth

Though bathing may take the unpleasant sweat odor off of you, it won't do anything for the lingering odor in your clothing. Perspiration leaves behind embarrassing stains and odors that won't always simply wash out with a trip through the washing machine. If this cloth is one that you plan on using or wearing again, eliminating this smell is a priority. With help from a few household materials you can banish this unpleasant odor and leave your cloth smelling fresh and clean.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the cloth flat, so that any stain on the cloth is facing up.

    • 2

Treat the stain by drizzling a stain-fighting detergent over it and working it into the fabric with a clean cloth.

    • 3

Allow the detergent to sit on the stain for 15 to 20 minutes.

    • 4

Rinse the detergent away under hot running water.

    • 5

Dissolve 1-cup of table salt into a 5-gallon bucket of warm water. If you don't have a bucket handy, use the bathtub or a sink that you won't be using.

    • 6

Submerge the cloth in the salt water completely.

    • 7

      Soak the cloth overnight.

    • 8

Remove the cloth from the water and place it into the washing machine.

    • 9

Wash the garment with hot water and a bleach-free liquid laundry detergent.

    • 10

Add 1-cup of baking soda to the detergent.

    • 11

Hang the cloth to dry when it is finished washing. Air drying outside is ideal, as the fresh air and sunshine can eliminate any lingering odors. If the weather isn't clear and sunny, hang the cloth in a well-ventilated area of the house instead.
