Pollen Stain Removal

Individual pollen granules are difficult to see, but collectively they can create quite a stain on clothing. Brushing up against a day lily or other flower is all it takes to leave a yellow or orange pollen stain on your garment. Although your first inclination might be to brush the stain off with your hand, this only serves to make it worse. Avoid spreading the stain by using stain removal techniques and products that lift the pollen granules without spreading them over or pushing them into fabric fibers.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold up the pollen stained garment to keep the pollen from falling off the fabric onto other surfaces. Carry the garment outdoors and give it a vigorous shake to remove as much loose pollen as possible.

    • 2
Tape adhesive helps lift tiny pollen granules from fabric.

Place the garment on a flat surface with the pollen stain facing up. Lightly apply sticky tape over the remaining stain to lift pollen out of the fabric fibers. Lift and discard the tape.

    • 3

Spray aerosol prewash stain remover on the rest of the pollen stain. Allow the prewash to soak into the stain for five to 10 minutes.

    • 4

Wash the garment with laundry detergent and all-fabric bleach to remove the last traces of pollen stain. Before drying the cloth, make sure the pollen stain has been removed entirely.
