How to Remove a Tea Stain on a Chenille Spread

Chenille is very soft to the skin but the tufted, fuzzy nature of this fabric means that stains such as tea stains may cling to each delicate fiber. If you treat a tea stain on chenille quickly, it will be much easier to clean. If the stain has been sitting for a while, it will be more difficult to remove and may require some soaking and extra effort. In either case, however, you can remove a tea stain from a chenille spread.

Things You'll Need

  • Enzymatic laundry pre-treating spray
  • Laundry detergent

Instructions

    • 1

Place the chenille spread in cold water. If the spread is small, use your kitchen sink. If it is a large spread, use your bathtub.

    • 2

Spray the tea-stained area with a laundry stain treating spray that contains enzymes, or rub the area with laundry detergent that contains enzymes. These detergents usually list this fact on the label, or indicate they are suitable for treating coffee and tea stains.

    • 3

Let the spread soak for up to 30 minutes. Use your hands to gently rub the stained fabric area together.

    • 4

Apply a color-safe bleach to the stain if it remains and allow the chenille to soak for another 30 minutes.

    • 5

Dry the chenille spread in your clothes dryer after you have removed the stain.
