How to Fold a Zip-Up Sweater

Just because your chunky knit zip-up sweater is thick and wrinkles less frequently than your other shirts doesn't eliminate the need for folding. If you've ever hung a sweater for an extended period, you know the flexible knit of a sweater knit becomes misshapen with minimal force. Sweater knits also stretch with repeated rumpling and shoving, allowing the fibers to catch easily on the metal teeth or pointy-cornered handle of an open zipper. Properly closing and folding your zip-up sweater will protect that sweater and others that might touch the zipper.

Instructions

    • 1

Zip your sweater to the top of the neck and push the zipper handle down flat. Flip the sweater over so the zipper side faces down on the table or bed.

    • 2

Bend the right sleeve at the armpit and fold it across the back horizontally. Repeat with the left sleeve and lay it on top of the folded right sleeve.

    • 3

Keep the sleeves in place and fold the right half of the sweater to the center of the back. Repeat with the left side. Both sides should meet but not overlap.

    • 4

Fold the lower half of the sweater so the bottom hem meets the shoulders. Turn over folded sweater and store in a drawer.
