How to Get Black Nail Polish Out of a White Bedding Set

Nail polish contains hard-drying, waterproof pigments. This means nail polish spilled on white bedding leaves stains that, although they may fade, will not wash out with detergent and bleach alone. Despite this, you do not need to assume the bedding is ruined. To remove black nail polish stains, you must simply spot treat the bedding with an appropriate solvent before washing it.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear your kitchen table or another suitable work area. Place the bedding facedown on the table, and put white towels or paper towels beneath the stained areas. This protects the surface below the bedding.

    • 2

Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands. Wet the corner of a clean, white cloth with nail polish remover.

    • 3

Blot the nail polish stain with the cloth, moving from the outer edge of the stain to the center. Use cotton balls or cotton swabs to apply nail polish remover on small splatters or drips.

    • 4

Continue applying nail polish remover to the bedding until you remove all the black color. Rinse the bedding in cool water, and then wash it with your regular detergent.

    • 5

Inspect the bedding for missed fingernail polish stains. Spot treat any you find, and then rewash the bedding. When you are certain you have removed all the stains, hang the bedding to dry in sunlight, or dry it in your clothes dryer.
