How to Wash Leather Motorbike Riding Gloves That Are Starting to Smell

Leather motorbike riding gloves keep your hands safe and comfortable while you ride. Unpleasant odors naturally appear inside such gloves due to an accumulation of sweat, mold and mildew. Cleaning such items with standard laundry or household cleaners is not recommended, as such products stain and otherwise damage leather. A homemade solution can remove the odor-causing agents from the gloves without damaging the leather.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash and dry your hands before cleaning the gloves. This keeps you from accidentally transferring further odors and/or bacteria onto your gloves.

    • 2

Mix a cleaning solution of tap water and rubbing alcohol inside a container, such as a small bowl. The Mrs. Clean USA website recommends using an equal amount of both products when making the solution. One cup of each liquid is a suitable amount when cleaning a pair of gloves.

    • 3

Turn one of the riding gloves inside-out. Place your hand in the glove. This helps preserve the glove's natural shape during the cleaning process.

    • 4

Saturate the soft cloth in the water/alcohol solution.

    • 5

Wipe out the inside of the glove thoroughly with the cleaning solution. Hang the glove, or place it in a well-ventilated area or in front of a fan until it's fully dry.

    • 6

Repeat the process for the other glove.
