Wash cotton sheets on a cold setting separately from other laundry. This will prevent zippers, buttons and hooks from damaging the fabric.
Add a fabric softener to the wash. This will treat the fabric and reduce the possibility of wrinkling. Never add bleach when washing cottons.
Remove the sheets from the washing machine as soon as the cycle is complete. If they are left in the machine, they start to dry while still crumpled.
Shake out the sheets vigorously before placing them in the dryer or hanging them to dry.
Place the sheets in the dryer on a warm setting, remove them while still damp and hang them on the line to finish drying. Alternatively, after shaking out the sheets, stretch them out on the line and secure them with clothes pins. Drying sheets over an uneven surface will lead to creases.
Iron the sheets when they are dry to remove any other wrinkles. Smooth out the sheets when they are put on the bed.
