How to Get Nail Polish out of a White T-Shirt

Though nail polish is pretty when it's on your nails, it does not look as good when it stains your clothing. Nail polish can dry quickly and harden, making it more difficult to remove than other types of stains. If you spill nail polish on a white T-shirt, there are a number of tricks you can use to remove the stain and save the shirt.

Things You'll Need

  • Paper towels
  • Liquid acetone nail polish remover
  • Dry hand towel
  • Pre-wash liquid stain remover
  • Laundry detergent
  • Washing machine

Instructions

    • 1

Dip a small section of a durable paper towel into liquid acetone nail polish remover.

    • 2

Place the acetone-soaked part of the paper towel directly over the nail polish stain.

    • 3

Press firmly on the paper towel in order to allow the fabric to soak up the acetone.

    • 4

Soak another paper towel in cold tap water and wring out the excess water in the sink.

    • 5

Blot the stain using the water-soaked paper towel.

    • 6

Continue adding acetone to the stain and blotting it with a wet paper towel until the stain no longer transfers to the paper towel.

    • 7

Apply a liquid pre-wash stain remover to the stain and allow it to soak in for 20 to 30 minutes.

    • 8

Wash the t-shirt on a cold wash cycle. Line dry it rather than drying it in the clothes dryer.
