How to Make a Detergent Sheet

Make your own laundry sheets and you'll save money. Making laundry sheets uses less detergent and gets rid of annoying measuring cups, drips and spills that waste expensive detergent. This do-it-yourself project uses items you probably already have in your home. Teach others this method to reduce waste. There is no measuring involved, just add a sheet to the machine wash, along with the dirty clothes.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a towel into eight equal lengths. Fold the towel in half, lengthwise, and then cut it into four identical strips. Stack the strips on top of each other. Cut down the center, turning each strip into two equal sized pieces.

    • 2

Set your sheets inside a plastic food storage container.

    • 3

Fill the storage container 2/3 full of liquid laundry detergent. Wait until the sheets have absorbed all of the liquid detergent. Add more detergent, a little at a time, until each sheet is wet but not dripping with detergent. Put the lid on your container, making sure it's tightly sealed.

    • 4

Toss one laundry sheet into the wash machine for each load of laundry. For heavily soiled clothing, use two sheets.
