How to Get Oil Out of Spandex-Nylon-Polyester Without Washing It

Synthetic fibers are ideal for some garments. A combination of spandex, nylon and polyester is often used in active wear for comfort as they are light-weight and water-resistant. An oil stain on this type of garment might seem like no big deal but repeated washing can break down spandex fibers. The special needs of spandex and oil-absorbing nylon don't have to result in a permanent stain. You can get an oil stain out of your garment with supplies and methods that don't require washing.

Things You'll Need

• Talcum powder
• Clean cloth
• Dry cleaning solvent
• Dawn dish-washing soap
• Sponge
• Clothing hanger

     Lay the spandex-nylon-polyester garment on a flat surface with the oil stain facing up.

     Sprinkle talcum powder over the oil stain until it's completely covered. Leave the powder on the fabric for 20 to 30 minutes to absorb oil.

     Brush the talcum powder off the fabric. Repeat steps two and three as necessary to treat remaining greasy residue on the surface of the fabric.

     Moisten a sponge with dry cleaning solvent. Blot the nylon polyester surface to remove any last trace of oil and accompanying oil smell.

     Allow the garment to air dry by hanging it on a clothes hanger in a location out of direct sunlight.
