3/4 cup bleach
Bucket
Old toothbrush
Clean cloths

Instructions

  Open the drawer that houses the fabric softener and bleach dispenser compartments. Pull the drawer towards you until it can go no farther.

  Locate the lock tab at the rear, left-hand corner of the drawer. Press down on the lock tab to release it.

  Remove the drawer from the washing machine. Take the fabric softener dispenser compartment out of the drawer.

  Pour 3/4 cup of bleach into a bucket. Add 1 gallon of hot water. Soak the fabric softener dispenser in the bleach solution for 10 minutes to loosen gummed-on fabric softener residue.

  Remove the dispenser from the bucket. Hold it under running water and scrub any remaining fabric softener residue on the surface with an old toothbrush.

  Rinse the dispenser with water. Dry it with a clean cloth.
