How to Clean Overalls

Overalls are trousers, secured with shoulder straps and a front flap covering the chest. They are typically worn to protect other clothing while performing dirty tasks, such as painting or yard work. You may run into a situation in which the inside of the overall is dirtied or stained by materials the overalls were supposed to keep out. When this happens, you can spot clean the inside of the overalls to remove the unwanted stain.

Things You'll Need

  • Laundry stain pre-treatment

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the overalls inside out and then lay them on a flat, dry surface such as a counter or the top of your washing machine, with the dirtied area exposed.

    • 2

Apply enough laundry stain pre-treatment to saturate any affected areas. Rub the fabric over itself for 30 seconds to help the pre-treatment penetrate the fabric.

    • 3

Allow the overalls to sit where they lay for five minutes.

    • 4

Wash the overalls as usual in a washing machine, using the hot water setting and the amount of laundry detergent as directed on the specific container. Unless the overalls are heavily soiled, they can be washed along with your regular laundry.

    • 5

Dry the overalls in a dryer on regular heat for 40 minutes, or by hanging them up to air dry.
