How to Get Rid of a Makeup Stain on a Sports Coat

One hug or a quick snuggle is enough to have someone's makeup rub off on your sports coat. The oil-based stain can leave discoloration, greasy residue, a colorful mark and occasional perfume odor. The last thing a manly man wants is a streak of colorful blush across his lapel. Since most sports jackets are dry clean only, it's important to treat the makeup stain in a way that won't damage your jacket. You can use simple supplies and careful techniques to get rid of the makeup stain and avoid ribbing from the guys.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape makeup substance off your sports coat with the edge of a spoon. Wipe the removed makeup onto a paper towel. Continue this process to remove as much of the makeup stain as possible.

    • 2
Dry absorbent powder comes in handy for makeup stain removal.

Lay your sports coat on a clean flat work surface. Cover the remaining makeup stain with talcum powder. Leave the powder on the stain for 20 minutes to absorb oil from the makeup.

Remove the talcum powder from your sports coat by vacuuming it off with a hand vacuum.

A white cleaning cloth shows how much stain has been removed.

Moisten a white cotton cloth with dry cleaning solvent. Gently blot the remaining makeup stain with the solvent. As the stain is lifted, move to a clean part of the cloth and continue to blot. Apply more dry cleaning solvent, as needed, and continue blotting to remove the entire makeup stain.

Press a dry cloth into the fabric of your sports coat to absorb moisture. Hang your coat on a padded hanger to hold its shape. Allow the jacket to air-dry completely.
