How to Remove WD40 Smell From Clothes With Vinegar

If you've ever had a squeaky hinge or a bike chain that wouldn't move easily, you may have used WD-40 to remedy the problem. WD-40 is a petroleum-based lubricant that also helps to protect metal surfaces from corrosion. Even if you don't get WD-40 directly on your clothes when you are using it, your clothing may absorb the odor of the product. A simple, inexpensive means of removing the oily odor is to use white vinegar as a cleaning product and odor neutralizer.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a basin or sink.

    • 2

Place the clothing item into the liquid solution. Rub the fabric together in the water to completely saturate the clothing.

    • 3

Soak the clothing in the vinegar and water for 30 minutes.

    • 4

Remove the clothing from the vinegar solution and launder it as you normally would.
