How to Apply Hydrogen Peroxide to Clothes

Hydrogen peroxide is a bleach alternative that whitens your stained clothing by breaking up set-in protein stains that would otherwise permanently stay in the fabric. The colorless, odorless liquid is an acid that bubbles when it reacts to clothing stains, and should be used in small amounts to prevent skin irritation after cleaning your clothes. Test the hydrogen peroxide on a small inconspicuous spot on the clothing prior to using it all over the stain to ensure discoloration does not occur.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak the stain with the laundry pretreater spray, and leave the solution on the stain for three to five minutes.

    • 2

Fill the washer to the highest temperature that is safe for your white clothing and pour 1 cup of laundry detergent into the washer's water.

    • 3

Add 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide to the wash and place your soiled clothing in the washer.

    • 4

Wash the clothing using the normal or standard wash cycle, and set your washer to an extra rinse cycle to remove all traces of the hydrogen peroxide.

    • 5

Tumble dry the clothing in the dryer and remove them immediately after the drying cycle is complete to prevent them from wrinkling.

    • 6

Dip a single cotton swab in the hydrogen peroxide, and cover any remaining stains on the clothing with the saturated cotton swab. Wait three to five hours for the peroxide to lighten the stain and rinse the clothing in warm water.

    • 7

Hang the clothing on a clothesline to air dry.
