How to Get Carpet Glue Out of Jeans

Carpet glue is a very strong adhesive used by professionals to bond carpet to the flooring beneath it. Carpet glue products often contain a rubber- or resin-based adhesive, and may contain other chemicals that make the product fire-resistant and mold-resistant. Therefore, it's important to use gloves and caution when working with any type of carpet glue. If you happen to get a stain on your jeans or clothing while working, take action immediately. The quicker you attack the stain, the more likely you are to remove it.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak the stain in soap and water for a couple of minutes and attempt to remove the adhesive with a damp clothing immediately after you notice a wet stain on your jeans or any type of clothing. Be sure to wear gloves so that your skin does not come in contact with the carpet glue. If the stain has already dried, skip this step and start with step 2.

    • 2

Place a mineral spirit on a cloth and dab the stain with the mineral spirit soaked cloth, if the stain has not already been successfully removed.

    • 3

Repeat step 2 as many times as needed until the stain is completely removed.

    • 4

Mix baking soda with water until you have a pasty texture and rub on the stain with a damp cloth, if the stain has not already been successfully removed.
