How to Care for Vinyl Shoes

If you're looking for a pair of dress shoes that are shiny, durable and simple to maintain, look no further than those made from vinyl. Vinyl is commonly used in flooring, siding and upholstery products. Because of its structural strength and non-porous surface, it was adopted as a leading material in footwear production. Footwear intended for rugged use, such as rain boots or hiking shoes, is typically constructed from vinyl. Common household products can be used to care for your vinyl shoes.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a small bowl with warm water and add several drops of dish soap. Mix the solution until the water becomes sudsy.

    • 2

Dip a soft bristled brush into the solution and clean away any dirt, scuff marks or other residue from the vinyl surface of your shoes. Wipe dry with a terry cloth towel.

    • 3

Cover up gouges or abrasion marks on the vinyl with a paint pen of the appropriate color. Make smooth, controlled marks to avoid making the cover-up visible.

    • 4

Apply a light amount of furniture polish to a polishing cloth. Buff the vinyl with the cloth using a rapid circular motion. Wipe off excess polish with a microfiber cloth.

    • 5

Store your vinyl shoes in a cool, shaded area or in an interior closet. UV rays and high heat can cause vinyl to discolor or erode prematurely.
