Fill a clean sink or bucket with cool water. Add 1/2 cup of borax to the water and stir with a wooden spoon.
Add 1/2 cup of your whitening agent. Choose to use either baking soda, white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide. Stir into the water with your spoon.
Place the white garment into the water and submerge. Agitate gently with your hands for five minutes. Allow to soak for 20 minutes in the mixture.
Remove the garment and rinse with cool water until it feels clean and there is no residue from the borax or whitening agent.
Hang the item on a laundry line in the sunlight for additional whitening and allow it to dry completely before ironing or wearing.
