How to Clean King-Sized Comforters at Home

King-sized comforters come in a variety of materials, including down-filled. They are large and cumbersome when it comes to fitting them into a washing machine, but it is possible if you have a large-capacity front-loading washing machine. Washing a king-sized comforter at home also requires the use of a specific type of soap, as well as dryer balls to fluff the comforter and ensure it becomes thoroughly dried.

Things You'll Need

  • Mild liquid dish soap
  • Washable footwear
  • Dryer balls

Instructions

    • 1

Put the king-sized comforter into the front-loading washing machine. Evenly distribute the comforter so it is not bunched up or knotted. Add a pair of washable shoes, which will fluff the washer as the cycle runs.

    • 2

Fill your laundry scoop with a mild liquid dish soap and add it to the washing machine. Regular laundry detergent may be too harsh for the filling in the comforter.

    • 3

Wash the comforter on a delicate or gentle cycle. Add a rinse cycle, or run the rinse cycle twice.

    • 4

Put the comforter in the dryer along with two or three dryer balls. Run the dryer on low heat for two to three hours, until the comforter is totally dry. You can also line dry it in the sun for eight hours.
