How to Make Your Own Antistatic Dryer Sheets

If you want to save money and help the environment, you can easily re-purpose old flannel shirts, towels and washcloths or old sweatshirts for use as antistatic dryer sheets. Not only will you reduce the unnecessary cost and waste of disposable dryer sheets, you will also be protecting yourself and the environment from harsh chemicals. Gather a few common household items, turn them into re-usable antistatic dryer sheets and enjoy the benefits.

Things You'll Need

  • Old flannel shirt; bath towel or washcloths; or cotton sweatshirt
  • Scissors
  • Airtight container
  • Mixing bowl
  • 1/4 cup natural fabric softener
  • 3/4 cup warm water

Instructions

      Cut an old flannel shirt, old bath towel, or old cotton sweatshirt into approximately 6-by-6-inch squares, or use a stack of old washcloths.

      Place the fabric squares in an airtight container, such as an empty diaper wipes container or plastic food storage container.

      Whisk 1/4 cup of natural fabric softener and 3/4 cup of warm water with a fork until it dissolves.

      Pour the solution over the fabric squares. Close the container and shake it to coat the squares. Let the solution absorb for at least one hour before using the dryer sheets.

      Add one square to each load of laundry in your dryer. Use it for multiple loads until the effectiveness wears off. Soak the squares for additional uses.
