How to Cover Up a Smoke Smell Without Laundry Sheets

Some social activities, like going out to a nightclub, attending a backyard barbecue, or visiting a friend or relative who smokes, result in a common annoyance — bringing home that smoky smell with you. It is especially annoying when a smoke smell penetrates deep into your favorite shirt or pair of pants. Luckily, removing smoke smell from your clothes is a relatively simple process, it only requires a few fairly inexpensive household items, and you don't have to use any fabric sheets.

Instructions

Read the care tag instructions on your article of clothing to ensure that it is washable and not dry-clean-only. If it's washable, turn on your washing machine and set it for one load, hot wash cycle. Use a bathtub if you don't have access to a washing machine, and fill it with enough hot water to completely immerse the clothes in need of cleaning.

Add 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of white vinegar to the hot water. Allow the clothes to soak in the hot water mixture for one hour.

    • 3

Add laundry detergent to the water. Run the washing machine cycle as normal. If you're using a bathtub, simply hand-wash your clothes in the soapy water and rinse.

Dry your clothes in your clothes dryer or hang-dry it on a clothesline. Once they are dry, you can spray your clothes with an odor-eliminating fabric spray for added freshness.
