How to Bleach Bed Sheets

White or light-colored bed sheets become dingy or stained over time and benefit from a good whitening. They also need to be disinfected after contact with bodily fluids or after use in the sick room. When used properly, bleach, or sodium hydrochlorite, is safe and effective in addressing these issues, but when handled poorly, it can be problematic or even dangerous. Bleach your sheets safely to bring out their beauty and to control germs and other pathogens.

Place the amount of detergent needed into the washer.

    • 2

Add the sheets, distributing them loosely around the washer.

    • 3

Pour 1 cup of liquid chlorine bleach into the bleach dispenser. It will be released at the proper time in the cycle.

    • 4

Select the hottest water temperature available and begin the wash cycle. Let the machine complete the wash cycle.

Hang the sheets to dry out in the sunshine, if possible. Sunshine is also a good bleach. The sheets can be put in the dryer, otherwise.
