Place your ironing board in an open area in your house near an electrical outlet.
Fill the iron to the indicated line with water from the sink before setting it on the ironing board and plugging it in. Set the iron to the setting specified on the instruction label of your shirt. Certain materials require certain iron settings.
Place the collar of the shirt on the ironing board with the right side of the shirt facing you over the edge of the board. Run the iron over the collar of the shirt until the wrinkles are gone, turning it over and repeating the process.
Place the shirt upside down on the ironing board so that the back of the shirt faces upward and iron it. Turn it over and iron the other side of the back.
Place one sleeve on the ironing board and flatten the cuff; make sure there are no big folds or wrinkles in the fabric before you begin pressing it. The sleeve should lie so that the seams are lined up and to the side. Start ironing at the top of the sleeve and work your way to the cuff. Turn the sleeve over and repeat. Do this with both sleeves.
Turn the shirt on the board so that the front of it is lying on the board. Start with the side of the shirt that has the button holes. Finish and turn the shirt so that the side with the buttons is in the same position and iron that side.
Remove the shirt from the ironing board and hang it on a hanger away from other clothing to prevent new wrinkles from forming.
Unplug the iron, stand it up straight and let it cool.
