How to Get a Stain Out of a Polyester Comforter

Polyester blend fabrics made ideal bedding because they are long-lasting and durable. While polyester is generally easy to keep stain-free, the fabric does attract oil stains. If you or a family member ate in bed and got food grease on a polyester comforter, remove the stains as soon as possible for the best results. Removing the grease stain quickly will give it less time to soak into the polyester fabric. When using cleaning agents, always test a small patch of fabric first to see how the material will react.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Soak up any non-oil based liquid, such as milk or juice, with a dry paper towel or clean cloth. Sprinkle baby powder, cornstarch or another oil-absorbing product on a grease stain.

    • 2

Remove any cornstarch or powder. Dip a cloth into warm water and apply it to the stain to saturate the polyester fabric. Apply a small amount gentle dishwashing liquid to the stain and work it into the fabric using a damp cloth. Use a grease-fighting detergent if the stain is oil-based.

    • 3

Wash the polyester comforter in a washing machine set on a permanent press cycle. Use warm water if the fabric has an oil-based stain, and cold water for all other types of stains.

    • 4

Hang the clean comforter on a line and allow it to air-dry until you know if the stain is removed or not; the heat from a dryer may set hard-to-remove stains into the polyester fabric.
