How to Avoid Bras Being Tangled by the Washer

Top-loading washing machines use an agitator to effectively clean clothes, circulating them to lift out dirt and grime from fibers. The problem with agitators is that some clothes get wrapped around them, becoming tangled and stretched out -- especially bras or other items with straps. Take care when washing your delicate undergarments to prevent tangling and increase their lifespan.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift each bra out of the laundry basket, and hook its straps together. This prevents the hooks from catching other clothing.

    • 2

Place the bras inside a pillowcase. Use one pillowcase for three or four bras.

    • 3

Fold the pillowcase like an accordion five times, beginning at the top. Secure the folds with a safety pin, to prevent the pillowcase from opening during the wash cycle.

    • 4

Add the pillowcases to the washing machine, after putting in the detergent.

    • 5

Remove the pillowcase from the washing machine, after the cycle completes, and remove the safety pin.

    • 6

Hang the bras to air-dry, to prevent them from getting tangled in the dryer.
