How to Keep the Sheets Smelling Fresh in the Closet

Maintain a clean closet. Remove everything from the closet. Add 1 tsp. of liquid castile soap to a bucket of warm water and wipe down each shelf with a cotton rag dipped in the bucket. Use a naturally scented soap, such as peppermint, for a lasting, mild aroma. Allow to air dry.

Cover shelves with contact paper if they are bare. Contact paper may be decorative on one side and very sticky on the other. It covers and protects the shelf and is easy to clean.

Place cedar blocks on the back of the shelves. Cedar wood is fragrant and is often used to store wools and linens. It repels moths and other bugs while making the area smell fresh. As the oils evaporate, the cedar will lose it's potency. When you notice the blocks have lost their scent, rub them with sandpaper.

Place clean, folded linens back into the closet. For sheets to smell fresh, they must be fresh and clean when they are stored.

Place sachets of potpourri around the sheets in the closet. Choose potpourri that is made with real essential oils. Avoid potpourri made with synthetic perfumes because it is of less quality. One sachet per shelf is enough; you may need less. If you don't want to be overwhelmed with the scent of potpourri, try using just one or two and see if you need more later. Choose the same potpourri mixture and scent for the entire closet; mixing scents may result in a less pleasant aroma.
