Removing Creases From Satin

The soft, luxurious feel of satin makes it a popular fabric for everything from bed sheets to wedding dresses. One of the advantages of satin, which is made from materials such as silk and polyester, is that it does not wrinkle easily. However, when satin has been folded one way for a long period of time, creases do set in. You can rid satin of these unwanted creases with low-heat ironing or steaming.

Instructions

  1. Ironing

    • 1

Turn your satin garment inside out and place on an ironing board. If you have satin sheets, lay them on the ironing board with the dull side up.

    • 2

Turn the iron on to the satin setting, if it has one. If it does not, use a very low heat setting with steam. If your iron has heat setting numbers, set it no higher than three.

    • 3

Place a thin towel over the creased area of the satin to act as a pressing cloth.

    • 4

Iron the towel portion lying on top of the crease and go over it several times. Move the towel as needed to iron out all of the creases in the fabric.

    Steaming

    • 5

Hang the satin garment up in your bathroom.

    • 6

Turn on the shower in the bathroom to the hottest setting and shut the door. Leave the garment in there long enough for the steam to fill up the bathroom.

    • 7

Check the garment to see if the creases have relaxed.

    • 8

Wrap a warm, dry towel around your arm and run it across the garment to help release the creases and any wrinkles even further.
