How Do I Get Fingernail Polish Out of Cotton?

Nail polish looks great where it belongs, on a woman’s nails, but it is fairly destructive to anything else it touches. It a polymer that is designed to be waterproof, so you are going to need more than water to clean it off of cotton. Luckily, with a little patience, nail polish can be removed as easily as you get it off your fingernails. Just like you use acetone, or nail polish remover, to remove nail color, the same substance is used on clothing. Acetone dissolves the nail polish and causes no harm to the fabric.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a small piece of sponge and soak it in nail polish remover.

    • 2

Place the soaked sponge directly on the stain on the clothing. Allow it to sit at least 30 seconds to soak up the stain. Do not try to wipe the stain, only soak it. Nail polish remover causes the nail polish to dry. As a reaction, it will dry and wither off.

    • 3

Turn the garment inside out and repeat the same process.

    • 4

Soak the garment in warm water, after the stain and the nail polish are cleared.

    • 5

Allow it to dry in bright sun light. Use a stain remover or a detergent if necessary.

    • 6

Use a fabric softener and then iron it out.
