How to Get a Ring Around the Collar Out of a No-Iron Blouse

There's nothing more embarrassing than discovering you have a ring around your collar. Whether you're at work, school or out on the town, a grimy gray or yellow ring on the inside of your collar makes your clothing look dirty. Rings around the collar are caused by sweat, body oils and dirt. The proteins in sweat along with natural body oils are absorbed into fabric fibers to form discoloration where the shirt collar rubs against your neck. You can get a ring around the collar out of your shirt or dress with supplies found commonly around the home.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the no-iron shirt on a flat work surface covered with a clean towel. Position the collar so it's open.

    • 2
Lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent and stain remover.

Wet the collar soil stain with lemon juice. Allow the lemon juice to soak into your shirt for 20 minutes to loosen the oil and sweat stains.

    • 3

Rinse the collar with warm water and wring it out. Place 1 tablespoon of powdered laundry detergent in a bowl. Add enough water to make a smooth paste.

    • 4

Spoon the detergent paste onto the remaining collar soil stain. Work the paste into the fabric by scrubbing it lightly with the toothbrush. Allow the paste to sit on the fabric for 10 minutes.

Vinegar cuts through grease, helping to remove the body oil stain.

Rinse the paste off the shirt collar. Wring out the fabric. Pour white vinegar onto a sponge and dab at the remaining collar soil stain until removed.

Launder your shirt in warm water. Add laundry detergent and all-fabric bleach to the wash cycle to remove any remaining ring around the collar. Hang your shirt to dry.
