Wash your denim only as needed. To preserve the original shade of your denim and prevent the whiskers from blending in, wash your jeans as sparingly as possible. Avoid performing strenuous activities in your jeans to keep them clean.
Clean spots and stains on your jeans using a prewash stain remover and damp rag. Once the stain has been lifted, allow the denim to air dry. Spot treating your denim will eliminate the need for machine washing.
Use cold water and a gentle agitation when you must wash your jeans. Fill a bathtub halfway with cold water and add 2 tablespoons of detergent. Place the jeans in the water and agitate them gently for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse the jeans completely and hang them to drip dry.
Avoid placing the jeans in the dryer. In addition to shrinking the denim fabric, high heat can quickly fade your jeans. Over time, drying will make your jean whiskers less and less noticeable.
Trace over your jean whiskers lightly with a bleach pen if they begin to blend in with the surrounding denim. The bleach in these pens is strong enough to lighten the denim's shade without damaging the fabric.
