How to Fix Sheets That Pill

Sheets that pill look bad and feel uncomfortable. Pilling is caused by the breakage of fibers in low-quality sheets, causing the fibers to ball up and form tiny nodules, or pills, on the surface of the fabric. Laundering sheets properly prevents pilling; however, sometimes even the best sheets start to develop pills. Removing pills is a straightforward task with a safety or electric razor.

Instructions

    • 1

Spread a towel or pad over an ironing board to create a flat, even surface.

    • 2

Spread the pilled sheet, pill side up, over the pad. Pull the sheet taut to expose the pilling.

    • 3

Roll a sticky lint roller or clear tape over the pilled sheet. This removes small pills and pulls deeply entrenched pills up to the surface so they can be removed in the next step.

    • 4

Run an electric razor or safety razor carefully over the sheet. The razor picks up the pills. Work in sections over the sheet, repeating until the sheet is free of pilling.
