How to Get the Smell Out of Shoes With Sheepskin Lining

For the fashion-forward individual who also loves to be comfortable, sheepskin-lined shoes are a must-have. Shoes or boots made from sheepskin are durable, warm and moisture wicking for optimal wearability and comfort no matter the season. Over time, perspiration and bacteria from your feet can collect inside your sheepskin shoes. If left untended, this can result in a pungent odor. After a gentle hand washing and a sprinkle of baking soda, your pair will smell as good as new.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bathtub halfway with cold water. Avoid using warm or hot water, because it may damage the sensitive sheepskin.

    • 2

Submerge your shoes and soak them in the water for 5 to 10 minutes. Squeeze the shoes during this time to push out any trapped dirt.

    • 3

Rinse each shoe under cold running water. Wring out as much water as you can and allow them to air dry completely out of direct sunlight.

    • 4

Add 1 tbsp. of baking soda to the inside of each shoe and shake the shoe gently. Allow the baking soda to absorb any remaining odors and moisture overnight. Remove excess baking soda using a hand-held vacuum or small vacuum attachment.
