Removing Melted Nylon From the Dryer

No matter how careful you are when preparing and washing a load of laundry, sometimes things make into the dryer that shouldn’t. For example, items that are made from nylon, when tossed into a clothes dryer, can melt due to the heat. The nylon then gets stuck to the inside of the dryer drum and any clothing included in that load. To remove melted nylon from the dryer, wait until just after the cycle has run and the dryer drum is still warm. Nylon is easier to remove before it has a chance to cool and stiffen.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any clothing, sheets or towels from the dryer.

    • 2

Hold a plastic scraper in your hand so it is parallel to the inside of the dryer drum. Angle it underneath the largest section of the melted nylon and scrape it off the drum.

    • 3

Remove the scraped-off nylon from the dryer and discard. Repeat until all the nylon is scraped off.

    • 4

Spray a rag with non-flammable cleaner. Scrub the cleaner over the inside of the dryer drum to remove any remaining specks of nylon.

    • 5

Dip a rag in hot water. Swipe over the interior of the dryer to remove the cleaner and any leftover residue. Allow it to air dry for three to four hours.
