How to Clean Rayon Silk Upholstery With Dry Cleaning Solvent

Most furniture upholstery has a cleaning label attached that indicates the proper cleaning method for it. Rayon silk upholstery is usually labeled with an "S" indicating that dry-cleaning solvents are required to clean it safely without the use of water. Any other cleaning method may damage and stain the fabric.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the upholstery for cleaning by scraping away any caked-on matter with a knife. If there is a fresh liquid stain, blot the fabric with a cloth to absorb the liquid.

    • 2

Apply a small amount of dry-cleaning solvent to a cloth. Gently blot the stained area with the cloth until the stain is saturated with the solvent.

    • 3

Place a clean cloth to the stain and let it sit for several minutes to absorb any excess dry-cleaning solvent.
