How to Get Disposable Diaper Lint Off Clothes From the Washing Machine

Laundry day may come with its fair share of surprises, from pens in the pockets to a disposable diaper left in the diaper bag. The results are less than pleasing. While chemicals exist to remove stains, the lint from a disposable diaper gets on all the clothes in the washing machine. The entire load must be treated. You could sponge off or run a lint roller over every piece of clothing in the washing machine, but there is another solution that works well.

Things You'll Need

  • 1/2 to 1 cup distilled white vinegar
  • Damp sponge
  • Lint roller

Instructions

    • 1

Shake off the clothes as best you can to remove any loose pieces of lint. Shaking also removes any plastic pieces that may be mixed in with the lint.

    • 2

Load the clothes into the washer as you normally would when washing. Fill the washer with clean water. Use the water temperature and washer settings needed for the clothing.

    • 3

Add 1/2 to 1 cup distilled white vinegar to the wash water. There is no need to use laundry soap during this cleaning cycle. Wash the clothes with a detergent once the lint is removed. However, if the clothes are clean, the rinse cycle removes any vinegar odor.

Start the washer and allow the cycle to run through. Check the clothes for any remnants of diaper lint. For extreme lint deposits, you may have to run the clothes through another cycle with vinegar.

    • 5

Dry the clothes as you normally would once the lint has been removed. Remove any small particles that remain with a lint roller once the clothes are dry.
