Instructions

Blot and absorb any excess oils that may be on your leather jacket, such as from a leather cleaner. A terry cloth towel works well for this job.

    • 2

Hang the leather jacket up in an airy location between uses. Keep it unzipped or unbuttoned and not sandwiched in between other jackets. Your leather jacket may have that new smell or the oily smell common after cleaning. This smell will dissipate in time and airing it out will speed things along.

Clean your leather jacket to remove oily odors caused from a spill or stain, such as from car oil. Read the care label that came with the jacket and use the leather cleaning product the manufacturer recommends. If you decide to make your own, combine two parts olive oil and one part white vinegar. Then add two drops of your favorite essential oil to improve the smell. Gently apply the cleaner to a rag or spray it on and then gently rub it into the leather. Test in a discreet area first.
