How to Keep Static From Lingerie

The thin, delicate fabrics used for most lingerie items are prone to static. The static causes the lingerie to cling to your skin or other fabric items instead of draping over your body correctly. Proper washing and drying prevents static buildup from occurring and discharges any static already present in the fabric. Static usually occurs during dry conditions, so you may experience it more during the winter months when the air inside your home is drier.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the care label on the lingerie. These delicate fabrics may require hand washing or air drying.

    • 2

Place machine-washable lingerie items in a mesh delicates bag before laundering. The bag prevents damage to the fabric. Wash the item in the water temperature recommended on the care label.

    • 3

Use a fabric softener sheet in the dryer for lingerie items suitable for machine drying. The softener prevents static buildup during the dry cycle.

    • 4

Lay lingerie items flat on an absorbent towel to air dry if machine drying isn't recommended. Air drying doesn't cause static to buildup in the fabric, so choosing to air dry all your lingerie items prevents most static problems.

    • 5

Fold the lingerie items promptly after drying. Place a fabric softener sheet on top of the item in the drawer. The sheet prevents static from building up in the fabric during storage.
