Use paper towels to blot and soak up the initial wetness from each article of laundry affected. Do not rub, as this can cause urine odors to soak into the fabric’s fibers further.
Rinse the clothing with water. Water will dilute the dog urine. If the article of clothing is also stained, use club soda instead of regular water to dilute the smell and begin lifting the stain. Repeat to remove the bulk of the odor.
Generously sprinkle baking soda over the affected laundry while it is still wet. Baking soda is a deodorizer and will remove any remaining odors from your laundry. Allow the baking soda to sit on the fabric as it dries.
Once the fabric is dry, use water to rinse the baking soda away. If you still smell dog urine, use a toothbrush to gently massage more baking soda into the fabric. Allow the fabric to dry again before rinsing away the remaining baking soda. Hang the laundry to dry.
Use paper towel to blot away the initial wetness. Immediately put the laundry into the washing machine. Waiting to put the laundry in the machine can cause the odors to set into the fabric, making them more difficult to remove.
Use your regular laundry detergent but add a quarter-cup of apple cider vinegar to the load of laundry. Run the machine on your regular cycle depending on colors and fabrics. Apple cider vinegar will neutralize the ammonia in the dog urine.
If you find your laundry still smells bad once the cycle is complete, do not put the clothing into the dryer. Drying the clothes will cause the odor to set in further. Instead, run another laundry cycle with apple cider vinegar and detergent.
