Choose a location to hang your clothesline in your home. Your best option is an open area where the clothes can drip onto the floor without damaging it. If you can position it near windows or fans, the clothing will dry faster. You will have to attach the ends of your clothesline to two opposite walls. The further apart they are the longer your clothesline can be.
Measure down from the ceiling on the first wall for your clothesline. Allow approximately 6 inches of space between the ceiling and the line, and mark that spot on the wall with an X using a pencil. Repeat this directly opposite your location on the second clothesline wall.
Use a drill and a drill bit to begin drilling a hole in the wall at the center of the X. Do this for both walls.
Use your hands to screw in a closed eye hook in one drilled hole and an open eye hook in the other. Each hook needs to be sturdy and durable. The size of the hook end should have approximately the same diameter as a baseball. Install the open eye hook with the open edge facing up. The outer edge of the closed hook should be horizontal.
Measure the distance between the two hooks; double this measurement and add 12 inches. Cut a length of sturdy rope to match that length.
String the rope through the closed eye hook and bring the ends together on the opposite side of the room. Thread the ends through a pulley and secure them. Hook the pulley into the open eye hook.
Pull on the rope to tighten the pulley system until your clothesline is taut.
