Refer to the care tag on the pillow to determine the stuffing type and washing recommendations. Down-, cotton- and polyester-filled pillows are washable, while foam pillow forms typically are not.
Remove the batiste pillow cover prior to washing, if applicable. On decorator pillows, the sham may be permanently affixed to the pillow form.
Machine-wash removable covers on a normal cycle in warm water with a mild detergent. Wash with like colors to prevent light-colored batiste from becoming gray or dingy.
Wash batiste-covered down-, polyester- or cotton-filled pillows on the gentle cycle in warm water with a mild detergent. Wash only one large pillow or two small decorator pillows at a time to avoid overloading the machine.
Dry batiste pillow covers on low heat. Air-dry batiste shams that feature delicate embroidery or woven designs, because heat drying may cause shrinkage, which results in the threads pulling around the design.
Tumble-dry down and filled pillows on the low-heat delicate setting. Remove the pillows from the dryer and shake them out every 20 to 30 minutes, so the filling stays evenly distributed. Place two towels in the dryer with the pillows to help absorb excess moisture. Filled pillows may take two hours or longer to dry.
