How to Treat Yellowed Linoleum

Linoleum is a material often used for flooring in bathrooms and kitchens. Linoleum is a porous surface and therefore can soak in water and other things that come into contact with it. Because of the porous surface, linoleum can take on a yellow tint that can appear grungy and unclean. To get rid of the yellow tint in the linoleum, use baking soda.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any rugs from the floor.

    • 2

Sweep up any larger pieces of dust and other debris using a broom.

    • 3

Fill a bucket with clean, warm water.

    • 4

Dip a mop into the warm water and squeeze all excess moisture to avoid dripping.

    • 5

Run the wet mop over the surface of the linoleum floor, adding more water to the mop head as necessary to apply a layer of water over all the linoleum.

    • 6

Apply a thin, even layer of baking soda over the wet floor.

    • 7

Scrub the baking soda into the floor using a nylon brush so that it can further penetrate the porous floor.

    • 8

Allow the scrubbed in baking soda to sit over the yellowed linoleum floor for 30 minutes.

    • 9

Wipe all dried baking soda away from the floor with a soft cloth.
