How to Clean Bathroom Caulk With TSP

Trisodium phosphate (TSP) is a household cleaner with powerful degreasing agents. It is known as an all-purpose cleaner for use on many areas in the home, including the kitchen and bathroom. Keeping a bathroom clean includes cleaning grout and caulk lines around showers and bathtubs where mold and mildew create dark, black stains. TSP is effective in removing mold and mildew, helping restore the bathroom to its original, fresh look.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on protective clothing including long-sleeved shirt, rubber gloves and goggles. TSP can irritate skin and eyes.

    • 2

Mix 1/4 cup of TSP with 2 gallons of water in the bucket. Add the powder to the water to prevent splashing of the chemicals.

    • 3

Soak the scrubber in the TSP solution.

    • 4

Wipe the tile, grout and caulk down, starting at the top and working your way down. Re-soak the scrubber as needed. Cleaning all parts of the bathtub or shower reduces other mold and mildew growth to retard future problems.

    • 5

Rinse the shower and the caulk with water.
