Removing a Burnt Spot on Particle Wood

Particle wood is made of small pieces of wood and sawdust that are then glued together. It's usually covered with a laminate. Burn marks on particle wood can be either a surface burn or a deeper burn. If the burn is deep, there's nothing you can do short of replacing the board, because you can't sand particle wood. But there are several ways to clean a surface burn, as long as it didn’t penetrate the laminate over the wood.

Instructions

    • 1

Dampen the burned spot, and apply a half inch of toothpaste to a toothbrush. Rub the paste into the burn mark until it’s gone. Rinse well with water, and dry with a soft cloth.

Dampen a cloth, and spray it with one to two squirts of bleach. Set the bleached cloth on the burn mark and leave it there for five to 10 minutes. Rub the burn mark with a clean cloth to remove it completely. Rinse with water, and dry with a clean cloth.

Make a paste of 3 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of water. Apply the paste to the burn mark with a soft cloth. Rub the mark with the mixture until it disappears. Rinse it with water, and dry with a soft cloth.
