How to Remove Lacquer from Windows

Removing any stain from windows can be quite simple, as glass is a nonporous surface that isn’t sensitive to very many chemicals. Thus, you can use a very strong lacquer remover such as lacquer thinner. If the lacquer is very old, you should use a razor blade to scrape off the stain. Beyond that, never use coarse abrasives, such as coarse steel wool or wire-bristle brushes, to remove stains from glass.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak a clean cloth in lacquer thinner so that it is dripping wet.

    • 2

Hold the cloth over the lacquer stain for 5 minutes. This will give the thinner time to soften the lacquer.

    • 3

Remove the cloth and scrub the glass with it until the lacquer is gone.

    • 4

Scrape the razor blade over the lacquer stain if you can still see it. Ensure that the glass is covered in lacquer thinner the entire time. This will help lubricate the area to avoid scratches. Continue until the stain is gone.

Spray the window with glass cleaner and wipe it dry.
