How to Get Roof Cement Out of Carpet

Plastic roofing cement is a very sturdy, tar-like substance. It’s designed to hold tiles and shingles onto the roof of your house through all sorts of weather. Therefore, if roofing cement ends up on your carpeting, it can be difficult to eliminate. No matter how it appeared on your carpet, whether through a dripping container or from the boots of roofers, the best time to remove the roofing cement is before it has a chance to harden.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on the rubber gloves. Grip the blob of plastic roofing cement between your thumb and forefinger. Pull up on the cement to remove as much of it from the carpeting as possible.

    • 2

Pour a quarter-sized amount of oil-based solvent onto a rag. Rub the rag directly over the cement to loosen and dissolve it. Apply more solvent if necessary.

    • 3

Wash the carpet with soapy water to remove any remaining roofing cement, as well as any residue from the solvent. Let the carpet air dry for 24 hours.
