How to Remove Odors From Dishes Taken From Wooden Cabinets

Wooden cabinets come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors, and they offer a sturdy, attractive storage space for dishes and other kitchen items. However, some types of wood, such as cedar, have a strong smell, which can sometimes transfer to your dishes. If your dishes have acquired a scent from your wood cabinets, you can remedy this problem by using a couple of common, inexpensive household items.

  • White vinegar
  • Cloths
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Sponge
  • Lemon juice
  • Salt
  • Baking soda (optional)

Instructions

  1. White Vinegar

    • 1

      Prepare a bath for the dishes consisting of 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts hot water.

      Place the dishes in the vinegar bath, and allow them to soak for 30 to 45 minutes.

      Wet a cloth, and wring out the extra water. Add 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap to the cloth, and use it to wipe the dishes.

      Rinse the dishes, and dry them with a soft cloth.

    Lemon Juice

      Wet a cleaning sponge with lemon juice.

      Dip the wet sponge into salt.

      Scrub each dish with the sponge, reapplying lemon juice and salt as necessary.
